Desert Spectacular Tour

When we talk about the Southwest we usually refer to it as The Desert Southwest, and this tour is designed to explore the very best of this extraordinary desert land in Utah and Arizona. If you have never traveled in the high desert this is the best journey you are likely to take, and if you are a veteran of the Southwest, we will take you to areas that you have probably never seen, and show you how to capture the grandeur of this colorful and dramatic land. Join us for the adventure and the colors and the drama of the high desert on our Desert Spectacular Tour!

Highlights: Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Tuba City AZ, Page AZ, Painted Desert, wildflowers, spectacular canyons, Lake Powell, Marble Canyon, Hopi Reservation, Navajo Reservation, White House Ruin, Chinle AZ, Spider Rock, Anasazi ruins, petroglyphs, Twin Trails, desert landscapes, the Mittens, the Three Sisters, the Ear of the Wind, sand dunes, hoodoos

We begin in Phoenix, Arizona, though tours can begin in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then head north through Zion National Park. We stop at a little known area of brilliant dunes for a chance to photograph what others seldom see, and to experience some of the white cliffs of the area that are legendary in southern Utah. As the day progresses we make our way over to Lake Powell and take in this paragon of the high desert late in the day, staying in the area for the night at a well appointed motel.

The next two days we travel into the Painted Desert to locations that are known only to a few desert explorers and very few photographers to capture the essence of this vast ancient area of volcanic ash and striated badlands, and even a mercurial lake that comes and goes with the seasons and the rains. This land is part of the Navajo and Hopi Reservations, as most of our tour is, and we will have many opportunities to see tribal towns and even shop in Native American gift shops for keepsakes and treasures.

Our next area of interest is over toward Monument Valley and the famous mesas, buttes and totems of the red desert. Having been regular travelers to this region for over thirty years we have had numerous opportunities to visit and photograph the many landmarks of the region, and to discriminate among the landscapes, traveling to the best places to capture images from dawn to dusk in the high desert. We are able to lead our guests to these places and share our success with them as well.

As the week progresses, we find ourselves in eastern Arizona and traveling among the deep canyons of the Navajo using local guides and transportation to take us to places that cannot be reached by non-Indian travelers. The streams and canyon walls and the numerous petroglyphs and ancient canyon dwellings are very special here and provide a haunting beauty and ethereal light in these canyon recesses. But as we know, everything is not a picture, and it is our pleasure to introduce you to the best of what is photogenic throughout the canyon lands of eastern Arizona.

We then start our trek back to Phoenix by way of one or two of the best landscape views that we will have seen on the entire trip. This is the desert Southwest at its finest, and we look forward to having you join us and experience this incredible journey for yourself, as we share our experience in capturing this land through our cameras. Call us or send us an email and we can tell you more about this exceptional adventure, and with your paid reservation, we will send you a detailed itinerary of where we go and where we stay.
